Determine the time between events
To calculate the time between two events, enter the start and end dates along with the hours and minutes for each. You can enter the end date first and the start date last, or vice versa. The calculator will automatically determine the time interval between the events, regardless of the order in which the dates and times are entered. The calculation will be performed as soon as you enter the last value in the date and time fields.
The tool operates in two modes, which are switched using the checkbox “Separate time calculation.”
- In the first mode (when the checkbox is off), the “hours” and “minutes” fields represent a combined duration. For example, a period of one day and ten minutes will be displayed as 24 hours, 10 minutes, and 0 seconds .
-
In the second mode (when the checkbox is on),
each unit of time is calculated separately. Using the same example, 24 hours and 10 minutes will be shown as follows:
- Hours: 24 hours (rounded )
- Minutes: 1,450 minutes
- Seconds: 87,000 seconds
Who can use this calculator?
This tool is useful for anyone who needs to calculate the time interval between events. Simply enter the start and end date and time to find out how long a trip took, how much time was spent traveling between cities, the duration of an experiment, or the waiting time.
Usage examples
The solar eclipse began on April 8, 2024 at 1:27 PM and ended at 3:35 PM the same day. Entering this data into the calculator gives a result of 2 hours and 8 minutes.
If you enable the "Separate calculation" option and enter the same data again, the duration will be shown as 128 minutes or 7,680 seconds. The value in hours is displayed as a rounded figure.
