Birthday Tracker - Application Overview and Key Features

Purpose of the Birthday Tracker Application

Birthday Tracker App Birthday Tracker focuses on one essential task: reminding you of birthdays. It alerts you ahead of time so you can plan something special, and lets you know when the celebration day is here.

Additionally, the program is designed to remind you of other important events that occur annually. Typically, these are holidays that can have a fixed date or occur on a floating schedule. These are days such as Thanksgiving, Groundhog Day, Black Friday, or reminders such as the start of daylight saving time in the spring or fall.

About the program's launching

Birthday Tracker is designed for Windows 10/11. To get started, download the app from the Microsoft Store, install it, and run it. From now on, it will automatically start with Windows. You’ll only need to launch it manually from the Desktop shortcut when you want to add or edit a specific entry right after thinking of it. Otherwise, the app will launch itself automatically.

About Data Use in the Program

This application is a local program intended for use by a single user. Like other small local programs, it has some advantages over similar web-based applications. All data in the Special Day program is stored on your personal computer's hard drive and is not transmitted to any websites or social networks. Lack of Internet access will not affect the program’s functionality (except when following links). Being a local application, it uses your computer’s resources and does not depend on any server.

Since the information you enter into the program’s database belongs to you personally, you have full control to add, edit, or delete records at your discretion. You independently input all the information you need into the application.

There are no restrictions on the number of instances of this application you can install on your personal computers running Windows.

Data Management your data management screen

  • The "Data Management" section allows you to add, edit, or delete records. You can fill the database with information, search for data, sort records by date or name, print records, navigate through pages, create backups to a JSON file, or restore data from a JSON backup.
  • Over time, your table may grow to hundreds of records. Since this data is important, the "Data Management" window provides mechanisms to save data to an external file, restore it, and print all records.

Working with Entries

  • In the Data Management window, click the add data button button, select the event type (birthday, holiday, reminder), and enter the event or person’s name. If you know the full date, including the year, select the "Start year known" option (New Year is excluded since 01.01.0000 cannot be recorded).
  • Otherwise, select "Ignore start year" if the exact year is unknown. You can update the entry later when the full date becomes known.
  • For events of type "Holiday," the "Not fixed date" option becomes available. This allows you to schedule events that are not tied to a specific date but recur on a certain day of the week in a specific month.
  • Users have full control over their entries. Events can be added , edited , or deleted .

Printing Data

  • Printing print the data allows you to transfer information from digital form to paper. If your computer has no printer, you can save the data as a PDF using the floppy disk icon. Note: the PDF is for printing only; data recovery from a PDF is not supported. Use the Export and Import functions to save and restore information digitally.

Export and Import of Information

  • The Export Data module allows you to create a backup copy of your records.
  • The Import Data module lets you import records from a backup into another installation of the program or restore data after reinstalling Windows.
  • To export data, go to the Data Management page data management. Next to each record is a checkbox; select individual records or all records using the "All" checkbox. The total number of selected records is shown at the bottom. Filters do not remove selections.
  • Click the Export marked records icon export data to a flash drive and choose the location to save the data.
  • To restore data, use the Import Data function import data. Select the JSON file created during export.

About the Export File

  • Exported data is saved as a JSON file named in the format: special-day-data-dd-mm-yyyy.json, where dd-mm-yyyy is the export date. By default, it is saved to the Downloads folder, but you can choose any folder or a flash drive.
